On Behalf of Our GREEN TEAM
We at Congregational Church UCC Detroit Lakes believe that 'creation care' is a vital part of Christian life. Everyone has opportunities to "walk the talk" and act in the spirit of creation care. Join us!
Currently we meet on Zoom the third Thursday of the month at 10:30 AM. If you are interested in our group please email Pastor Michael at firstname.lastname@example.org
Current efforts and events:
Green promises for 2022. Place yours in the container (insert picture) in the narthex or email your promise to the church at email@example.com. Your name will not be included. Some examples of green promises would be to remember to put cloth bags in your vehicle to use at the grocery store instead of plastic bags. Another example would be to plan meatless meals for one day each week.
We Support Heifer International
For more than 20 years, our church has sponsored a Sunday to highlight Heifer International’s mission "to build inclusive, resilient economies, so communities can develop effective ways to end global hunger and poverty in a sustainable way.” We share this mission as a part of our service to the world in need and the environment.
In a typical year, our Heifer Sunday includes an entire service focused around the theme for the year, for example, providing wells for those in desperate need of water in Africa. During our fellowship hour on that day, we feature learning experiences complete with foods for the selected country or area of need. We also provide an opportunity to donate to the Heifer fund. During COVID, we have modified the post-worship activities to a take-home option. The theme during these past two years has been “Bees and Trees,” with over $9000 raised for related projects.
